چکیده

The focus of this work is on rigorous mathematical analysis of the topological derivative based detection algorithms for the localization of an elastic inclusion of vanishing characteristic size. A filtered quadratic misfit is considered and the performance of the topological derivative imaging functional resulting therefrom is analyzed. Our analysis reveals that the imaging functional may not attain its maximum at the location of the inclusion. Moreover, the resolution of the image is below the diffraction limit. Both phenomena are due to the coupling of pressure and shear waves propagating with different wave speeds and polarization directions. A novel imaging functional based on the weighted Helmholtz decomposition of the topological derivative is, therefore, introduced. It is thereby substantiated that the maximum of the imaging functional is attained at the location of the inclusion and the resolution is enhanced and it proves to be the diffraction limit. Finally, we investigate the stability of the proposed imaging functionals with respect to measurement and medium noises. AMS subject classifications. 35L05, 35R30, 74B05; Secondary 47A52, 65J20

The topological derivative of stress-based cost functionals in anisotropic elasticity

The topological derivative of cost functionals J that depend on the stress (through the displacement gradient, assuming a linearly elastic material behavior) is considered in a quite general 3D setting where both the background and the inhomogeneity may have arbitrary anisotropic elastic properties. The topological derivative DJ(z) of J quantifies the asymptotic behavior of J under the nucleati...

Stability and Resolution Analysis of Topological Derivative Based Localization of Small Electromagnetic Inclusions

The aim of this article is to elaborate and rigorously analyze a topological derivative based imaging framework for locating an electromagnetic inclusion of diminishing size from boundary measurements of the tangential component of scattered magnetic field at a fixed frequency. The inverse problem of inclusion detection is formulated as an optimization problem in terms of a filtered discrepancy...

Stability and Resolution Analysis for a Topological Derivative Based Imaging Functional

Abstract. The aim of this paper is to study a topological derivative based anomaly detection algorithm. We compare its performance with other imaging approaches such as MUltiple Signal Classification algorithm (MUSIC), backpropagation, and Kirchhoff migration. We also investigate its stability with respect to medium and measurement noises as well as its resolution. A simple postprocessing of th...

The topological derivative in anisotropic elasticity

A comprehensive treatment of the topological derivative for anisotropic elasticity is presented, with both the background material and the trial small inhomogeneity assumed to have arbitrary anisotropic elastic properties. A formula for the topological derivative of any cost functional defined in terms of regular volume or surface densities depending on the displacement is established, by combi...
